Know before you go
Before your IV treatment
We are excited that you are coming in for IV nutritional therapy. Below is a list of suggestions you can do before your IV to make this experience comfortable for you!
1. Hydrate.
You are asking yourself why – won’t the IV rehydrate me? The minerals and vitamins infused via IV are dehydrating at the cellular level and your body will be more responsive if you are hydrated prior to starting the IV. Also, if you are low on fluids the veins in your arms will be smaller and they tend to hide on us when we are looking for the best site to start your IV. Your response to the IV and finding a vein will be improved by drinking a few glasses of water before your appointment.
2. Eat.
You should eat prior to your appointment time – make sure protein is part of the meal/snack. Some of the vitamins and minerals can cause nausea if infused on an empty stomach.
3. Blood thinners and NSAIDs
If you bruise easily, you may want to avoid taking anything that can cause blood thinning the day before your appointment and 24 hours after the blood draw, including over-the-counter NSAIDs.
4. Bring along a book, music, laptop or phone.
Most IV treatments take about 45 minutes. If you've added on more fluid, it could take an additional 45 minutes. And NAD+ IVs take from 2 to 4 hours. Sit back and relax. Rest your eyes, read a book or listen to music, check your phone or keep up with emails on your laptop—whatever you prefer. This time is yours so enjoy!
5. Wear comfortable clothes.
No need to dress up for your IV! We recommend a short sleeve shirt or sleeves that can be rolled up and comfy pants and socks. If you're coming before or after work or a strenuous workout, wear whatever you have on! Just make sure we can roll up your sleeves above the elbow.
6. Use the restroom.
This is self explanatory.
7. Relax and breathe.
Once you are seated in the recliner chair waiting for your IV to begin, take a few minutes to relax. Close your eyes and take 5 deep breaths in and out. Count slowly to 5 on the inhale and exhale. This will help release any nervous tension and prepare you for your treatment. Our nurses have been doing infusions for years and our needles are small to try and reduce any pain to a slight pinch!

After your IV treatment
Post IV infusion symptoms:
Post IV infusion symptoms are uncommon. Dehydration is the cause of most symptoms and concerns.
- Dehydration - we encourage you to drink at least 2 to 4 glasses of water after your infusion. If enough water is not consumed, you may experience any of the following symptoms: headaches, nausea, joint pain, blurred vision, cramping (GI and/or muscular), mental confusion or disorientation.
- Bruising or swelling at the puncture site - if you have bruising or swelling, apply ice or a cold pack on the area for 10 to 20 minutes at a time and elevate your arm to help speed up the healing process. Put a thin cloth between the ice and your skin.
- Feeling tired or unwell - if you do not feel well following your IV, you are most likely in the process of detoxifying. When toxins are pulled out of tissues, they re-enter the bloodstream. They remain toxins, but they are now on their way out. Even when patients do not feel well at this stage, the process is one of healing and cleansing. After this period, an overall improvement in one’s sense of well-being is generally reported.
- Shower or bathe as usual.
- Be gentle using the area around the IV site for a day or two, but you should be able to do your normal activities.
