This panel is used to help determine whether one has celiac disease and to evaluate the effectiveness of a gluten-free diet.
Celiac disease is a gluten enteropathy occurring in both children and adults. The disease is probably underdiagnosed in that it may affect as much as 1% of the population in the US. The condition is characterized by a sensitivity to gluten (found in wheat, barley, and rye) that causes inflammation and atrophy of the villi of the small intestine, malabsorption, etc. This sensitivity to gluten may also be seen in dermatitis herpetiformis. Strict avoidance of gluten in the diet will control disease activity, and antibodies to serum markers will disappear with time.

Total Cholesterol - Cholesterol is a type of fat, found in your blood produced by your body and also comes from the foods that come from animals that you eat or genetic conditions. HDL - HDL cholesterol is 'good cholesterol' that moves throughout the bloodstream removing harmful bad cholesterol from where it doesn't belong. High HDL levels reduce the risk for heart disease, however low levels increase the risk.

A complete blood count (CBC) is a test that measures the cells that make up your blood: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A CBC is used to measure the following components of your blood:
- white blood cells, which help stop infections
- red blood cells, which carry oxygen
- platelets, which help clot the blood
- hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that contains oxygen
- hematocrit, the ratio of red blood cells to plasma in your blood
The blood differential test can detect abnormal or immature cells. It can also diagnose an infection, inflammation, leukemia, or an immune system disorder. You may want this test if you have unusual bleeding or bruising, infection or inflammation, weakness and tiredness that doesn’t go away. These may be symptoms of anemia.

Kidney Tests

The Chem 24 (SMAC) is a general chemistry screening panel used to evaluate the status of the kidneys, liver, electrolyte, and acid/base balance as well as of blood sugar and blood proteins. CBC with Diff evaluates your white and red blood cells and platelets.
A hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test measures the amount of blood sugar (glucose) attached to hemoglobin, the part of your red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. An HbA1c test shows what the average amount of glucose attached to hemoglobin has been over the past three months. It's a three-month average because that's typically how long a red blood cell lives.
A urinalysis is often done to check for a urinary tract infections, kidney problems, or diabetes.

Chloride is one of the most important electrically charged minerals. It works with other electrolytes, such as sodium and potassium, to help balance acids and bases in your body.
